Elemental pollution status of different components of Ologe Lagoon, Lagos, Nigeria

Abstract This study evaluated the concentrations and distributions of nutrient non-nutrient elements in water, sediment, mud, vegetation Ologe Lagoon, Lagos, Nigeria. Nutrient including Na, Ca, K, Mg were found high concentration values different components freshwater ecosystem. While water had least elements, Trapa natans highest. Aluminium showed similar distribution patterns components, except for T. natans. All samples correlated significantly with (p <0.05). Both sediment mud low potential ecological risk indexes 5.3 5.92, respectively. Copper highest respect to single regulator notwithstanding its two components. Pollution indices suggested severity elemental contamination therefore, it is safe human consumption, but not agricultural irrigation. Pistia stratiotes potentiality use as photo-stabilisers phytoremediators some elements. The presence radionuclides rare earth Lagoon are instructive specific policy initiatives mitigate their effects on population.
